When you have a court case with multiple (lots of multiples) charges, and you are creating them in NPACS sometimes entering so many counts create an issue for the database. It makes the system spin and soon we get an error message. This is how charges should be entered. If uncertain, please ask the DDA team.
Example 1:
There were 28 counts of Compulsory Education Attendance. 14 received Probation and the other 14 were Dismissed.
Enter Count 1 as Compulsory Education Attendance and in the Charged General Offense and Adj/Convicted General Offense select “Multiple Counts”. This will cover Counts 1 through 14 as they are all the same. Then enter Count 15 as Dismissed, again selecting “Multiple Counts” in the Charged General Offense and lastly enter Count 28 as Dismissed. This shows there are 28 Counts in this case.
Example 2:
A particular case has 22 charges of Theft – Receive Stolen Property $0 -500 – M2. Now 11 of them Counts 12 – 22 have been dismissed. Counts 1 – 11 are included for the Pre-Sentence. Enter the 1 through 11 and then enter Count 22 and be sure and identify that this is Dismissed and on the General Offense select multiple counts, multiple victims. That might be the easiest way to handle it and the system would handle the 12 entries…if not then we might have to put a few of Count 1 through 11 together.
